Swedish Massage Techniques

Massage techniques which are used primarily for relaxation and reducing muscle tension. Often utilized in post-training recovery and/or an injury rehabilitation role.

Somatic Tissues and Biomechanics

Covers the anatomy, physiology and pathologies of the musculoskeletal systems of the body. Biomechanics, kinesiology and joint structure and function are also addressed extensively.

Deep Tissue and Neuromuscular Therapy

Massage techniques which are utilized to reach the deeper muscle layers of the body to reduce hypertonicity in both acute and chronic patterns of tension in recovery and rehabilitation.

Sports and Specialized Massage

Specific massage treatments that are often performed to assist athletes prior to competitions and in post-competition recovery or injury rehabilitation.

Eastern Theory and Practice

This course covers principles related to Traditional Chinese Medicine such as Chi, meridians, yin/yang and five-element theory. The principles and hands-on practice of Shiatsu, acupressure and reflexology are also covered.

Therapeutic Exercise & Procedures

The proper use of therapeutic exercise is covered as applied to minor musculoskeletal injuries or dysfunction. The course addresses the basics of strengthening and flexibility exercises for improvement of daily activities and/or sports performance.

Advanced Biomechanics and Assessmen

This course offers instruction in the theory and practice of assessment of injuries and dysfunctional movement patterns in a clinical setting. Students will also gain skills in the proper method of charting their findings.

Applications of Sports Therapy

Students will be introduced to the most common injuries involving specific areas of the body and how to develop and implement massage strategies for the treatment of these injuries. Students will gain hands-on experience in these treatment strategies.

Business, Ethics and MBLEx Prep

Business knowledge, professionalism and ethical behavior and decision making are covered in this course. There are multiple practice quizzes and exams taken in the course to prepare students to take the state massage certification exam (MBLEx).
